Something to do with surveys.?

To research whether consumers recognize a certain brand of paracetamol(medicine), a medical representative plans to conduct a survey of 1000 consumers in the Philippines. What is wrong with using telephone directories as the population from which the sample is drawn?

Assume that you are hired by a clothes fashion company to collect data on the waist sizes of college students. Why is it better to obtain direct measurements that to ask people sizes of their waist?

A group of students enrolled in Economics conduct a survey in an attempt to determine the typical annual salary of the school’s alumni. Would alumni with very low salaries be likely to respond? How would this affect the result of the survey? Identify one other factor that might affect the result?

Something to do with surveys.?
The problem with using the telephone directory as the basis to pull respondents to ask if they have heard of a particular pharmaceutical, is that you are using a shot gun to shoot a fish.

When doing this type of sample, you need to pull from the population that is using a similar type of drug to treat the same illness. People who don't have that issue or condition, or illness, really don't pay attention or care. You need to narrow your focus to patients, doctors, nurses, care givers.

When asked by a fashion company about college students....better to take direct measurements, everyone is in denial about the freshman 20.

As far as the Economics students, the alumni with very low salaries are less likely to respond, because even though the results are kept anonymous, they are embarrased to admit what they actually make...unless, it's the job of their dreams, and they are happy beyond measure. This would tend to skew the numbers on the high side. One factor that would also skew the numbers, are women who chose to drop out of the work force to raise children. Their potential income is great...their actual IRS reporting income is nothing....but their value is unmeasurable.
Reply:1. The entire population of the Philippines may not have a telephone or a listed number, so you won't be sampling the entire population, just the portion with listed telephone numbers.

2. People will lie about their waist size. Or they may not know for sure what it is and will guess. Either way it is not as accurate as measuring it yourself.

3. Who's to know for sure who will respond to the survey. Maybe rich alumni would not want to answer because they know the school will be looking for money.
Reply:Hi,

Well,

Most of those sites make you pay some kind of fee which is really dumb in my opinion. I have taken surveys from legit market research companies and have earned some extra cash. If you want a legit site that has a lot of companies that will send you surveys I suggest you look at the one listed as a source. This site is completely free with no hassles. Basically they just have a lot of companies and surveys listed from different countries that you can try and test out without ever spending any money.
