Help with debt collectors?

I had a CC and it was turned over to Alliance One collections. I did some research on the company and found a site called RipOff.com and there were many people who have been treated disrespectfully and have complained about how this company treats consumers. Is there anyway once its been turned over to call your cc company and make payments to them or see if they use any other collectors? After reading what others have gone through, I really don't want to deal with Alliance One in getting my debt paid.

Help with debt collectors?
There aren't many collection agencies that are received well by the public. Credit card companies usually place business with several collection agencies. The amount of business they get from the company depends on how much they collect. The zeal used to perform causes the reputation you have mentioned and there are laws to prevent that activity. Refer to the FDCPA. Whether you pay the credit card company or the agency, a fee will be paid to the agency.

The credit card company will not usually get involved once it is placed unless there is cause to and from what I see there isn't yet. Some will say don't deal with the agency at all but here are the consequences. The debt gets older and charges off. The possibility of being sued is always there. Each state has it's own laws regarding garnishment or post judgment remedies. If they don't sue the debt may be sold many times and you will face this over and over till you deal with it in some fashion.

Educate yourself with the FDCPA and if you want the bill paid, discuss with it with the collection agency. Be prepared for them to say no to payment terms. I would cc the credit card company as well.

By the way, don't believe every thing you read. The ripoffreport is currently in Federal court for 2 RICO suits and 3 others.
Reply:From my experiences working in credit Alliance One Collections is not bad. They are pushy to get there money put not disrespectful. When it comes down to it you owe them money, by not paying them you are hurting your credit. Call the better business bereau on them or go to www.bbb.com and check them out if you are nervous. Get in a payment plan with them, something your comfortable paying monthly and they will stay off your back!

Also, your credit card company will not deal with you in any way now that they handed your account over to a collection company. I worked at one, and people would call in and I would have to turn them away because collections was handling the account.

you need to get those payments up to date.. if you are late and they move it you honestly have no control. THey can move it at any time with you choice... keep doing on time payments and call the company you currently have and work out a payment plan something you are comfortable with.. that's the only way to really avoid a collection agency to sell it to an EVEN WORSE collection agency.
Reply:THE BEST THING TO DO IS TO READ THE FAIR DEBT COLLECTING PRACTACES ACT. SO YOU KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AS A CONSUMER. YOU CAN VIEW THIS BY GOING TO THE WWW.FTC.GOV WEBSITE.

YOU CAN SEND THEM A CEASE AND DESIST LETTER AND THEY BY LAW HAVE TO STOP CONTACTING YOU. GIVE ME YOUR E-MAIL ADDY AND I WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO SEND YOU A COPY AS I SEND THEM OUT FOR OUR CLIENTS.IF YOU WAIT LONG ENOUGHT IT WILL GO TO A DIFFERENT COLLECTION AGENCY. YOUR CREDIT IS ALREADY SHOT ON THIS ACCOUNT SO WAITING A BIT TO DEAL WITH SOMEONE ELSE WILL NOT HURT.
